| I'm having trouble sleeping tonight. Just some stuff I'm really worried about. Some of you might know about how I was stupid enough awhile back to turn on the power in my name for someone else and how I now owe that power company around $1,200. I got a letter today from the collection agency saying how it was 'going on my credit report' and if I had already sent a payment for the entire amount to disregard the message. Joy! I was supposed to be on a payment plan (I want to pay smaller payments for a while until tax time comes around, then I'll have enough money to more than likely pay it all off at once). Fuck ME for showing kindness to someone even if it was a foolish thing to do (can't really blame anyone but myself). Going to call them tommorow, but I'm sure my credit has already been shot to Hell from the moment I owed anything. I at least need to verify the payment plan since I don't want to get god damn arrested or sued or something. I really hate this. | | |
| Well ok, first...of course the visual/audio quality does. This isn't what I'm talking about though. You see, I recently obtained the Bluray disc of Wall-E since I absolutely adore that movie, and was just checking out the commentary. It has one of the COOLEST commentaries ever.
One of the capabilities of Bluray, and I'm not sure how they are doing it...(with the JAVA maybe?), but you can easily overlay things over the main feature such as other video. You could do this on DVD, but it didn't work NEARLY as well and was far more limited. You couldn't overlay actual video over the main feature without jumping to an entirely seperate video or switching 'angles', which is again switching to an entirely different video, though in realtime in that case (or at least nearly so).
Anyway...the commentary for Wall-E starts in a theatre where Wall-E is playing on the screen, while you see some people get into the theatre chairs and then introduce themselves. These are various people from Pixar. Then the theatre screen zooms in and we see the feature as it normally is (keep in mind it's playing this entire time). Finally, while they are talking about the movie, at times the theatre seats kind of slide up from the corner MST3K style while they are talking and you can see them moving around and pointing and stuff.
This is pretty cool. I wish DVD had been able to do this kind of thing. It *really* makes commentary more interesting at times when you can see the actual director (etc) screwing around in the corner of the screen. Now if only all companies would take advantage of this stuff (I *think* I've mostly seen Disney-related movies do these sorts of things...that is, the other Pixar movie I have and Watchmen on the Miramax label).
In those other cases the way it's used is quite different, but it's no less neat So, in closing...get with it companies, start taking advantage of all that neat stuff Bluray can do besides uber video and audio quality. Justify my paying a bit more for your Bluray releases even further than you already are.

| Just kind of chilling out tonight. I'm in an odd mood though. I wasn't going to write anything, since I really don't want to seem whiny, but I think I'm just a little lonely. Well, for one thing, my favorite co-worker is no longer working at the same store I am (she transferred to a different one in a different city). I wish her luck, but boy I'll miss her. She's one of those people that are just a blast to talk to. I'm sure I've mentioned her previously. I'll admit I have a bit of a crush on her, but if you met her you would too.
Also...don't really have a lot of people to talk to at the moment. I used to have a lot more friends but I suppose I don't have as many at this stage in my life. I can deal, but occasionally I wish there were more people in my life. Quality over quantity though I guess. ;)
I didn't do a lot today, I guess I figured it'd be a perfect day to be lazy. I slept in, watched Futurama, and played Half-Life. That's really about it. Also, ordered out for pizza. Might seem pretty sloth-like but damn if it's not great to actually be able to have a day like this at times.
Oooh, and also, listening to Royksopp's album "Junior". It is excellent. I'm really enjoying it. I had to listen to this one song a whole bunch of times for some reason, it really strikes a chord with me right now I guess (accentuates my current mood maybe?)

| Not really doing much. Wasn't sure what to do with myself today really. Liz was gonna come over, but she kind of exhausted herself yesterday and overslept...and wasn't feeling that great as a result of all the work she did yesterday (I think she kinda overworked herself), thus...I was Lizless today. It was an alright day...went out and cashed last weeks paycheck (woo...it was a bigger than normal one, over $300...doesn't happen too often) and got what turned out to be the most delicious sub in the universe. It was from the same Subway I usually get a sub from when I get the urge, but somehow it was even better than usual. A BLT sub it was, I almost wish I had another right now. Anyway, other than that I just watched some stuff like episodes of Bleach and King of the Hill and played a ton of the game Gundemonium Recollection. It's great fun if you're into things like sidescrolling shooters with massive loads of bullets flying about. I'm getting better at it...got almost to the end of Area 2 today in Unlimited difficulty (it's the hardest difficulty before Demonic...which sounds absolutely nuts). Me and the "Earl Type" Melissa were just blowing enemies away with our frickin' laser beams. :P Also, playing some Tidalis right now...you should all play it. I'm not just saying that because I'm friends with Lars, the main designer of the game. It seriously IS a great puzzle game. It's got the best of both worlds...it's easy to get into (difficult to master) and while it has stuff to make play easy for casual folks, it has loads and loads of options for those who want to really dig into the game and customize their experience or make new levels even (you get all the tools right there). Just felt like writing something. I hope tommorow is a better day. It was an ok day, but something felt kind of off tonight. | | |
| I've just seen my new Betta fish (named Mugen because I've been watching Samurai Champloo lately, and also because it means something like Dream, or Fantasy, or Infinite...and that's pretty cool) just do something kind of neat that I haven't seen before. I've had a betta before but he never did this.

What I refer to are all those little bubbles around the plant in his bowl. It's a bubble nest! Apparently Betta will often make these in the process of mating....they make one and attract a female Betta, and if she approves of the nest they commence with the making of baby Bettas. It's where the male takes the eggs to protect them while they are getting ready to hatch (they'll usually protect them for quite some time while they are hatching and while they are little Betta fry too). They'll go to the surface and gulp up some air, then go to where they are putting their nest and blow up a few little bubbles. They'll repeat this over and over again to make their nest. I thought I heard him going to the surface last night (it makes this weird little "bloop!" kind of noise). I guess they usually do it during the night, so the chances of seeing the Betta make his nest is pretty low I guess.
Poor little guy has no female Bettas to mate with, but it's still pretty interesting to see him making his nest like that. I really love bettas...they have a lot of personality for a fish. Mugen is a lot more aggresive then my previous Betta Momo was. He got so 'mad' at me earlier when I took that picture...he immediately swam to the other side of the tank and looked at me through the glass acting all aggressive, like he was gonna eat me or something (he's even a bit more aggressive than usual, maybe he's protecting his nest). :P After I was gone for a minute he went right back over to that bubble nest though. I'm hoping that he'll keep working on it and I'll get to see the nest get bigger (I've seen a few pics and Betta will sometimes build really huge ones).
*edit*
Oh yeah, and interestingly one thing (besides Betta females) that can cause them to build a nest is changes in barometric pressure. It did rain a lot yesterday and is apparently going to today, so the little guy might have picked up on that. | | |
